Is it finally Von Miller time in Dallas? Cowboys have no interest in adding veteran pass rusher

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

Veteran edge rusher Von Miller, who grew up in DeSoto, has long harbored a desire to suit up for his hometown Dallas Cowboys. He reaffirmed that sentiment during a podcast earlier this week and then sparked online chatter again when he shared an image of himself in a Cowboys uniform in his Instagram Stories on Wednesday. The post fueled widespread speculation that the 37-year-old six-time All-Pro, eight-time Pro Bowler, and former four-time first-team All-Pro could finally realize his lifelong dream as the Cowboys head toward the 2026 season.
However, the chatter appears to be just that—speculation with little basis in reality. According to sources, the Cowboys have shown no interest in adding Miller to their roster and have not engaged in any discussions about him. They are not pursuing a reunion with the longtime star and are instead focusing on their current pass-rush corps. The team is comfortable with the mix they have in place, led by veteran Rashad Gary, along with 2025 second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku and 2026 first-round pick Malachi Lawrence.
Miller, who posted 9 sacks as a rotational pass rusher for the Washington Commanders in 2025, remains a free agent. While his credentials—an illustrious career highlighted by multiple All-Pro selections and Pro Bowls—ensure he would draw serious consideration, the Cowboys appear unwilling to deviate from their current plan. As they report to training camp in two weeks, Dallas’ stated position is that there is no active pursuit of Miller and no formal discussions about adding him to the roster.
In the broader context of the Cowboys’ depth at edge rusher, the organization seems confident in the talents of its existing players and in the projections for their developing young contributors. The combination of Rashad Gary’s veteran presence, Ezeiruaku’s growth from the 2025 draft, and Malachi Lawrence’s potential as a first-round pick for 2026 provides a formidable foundation for the team’s pass rush. While the allure of reuniting with a hometown legend would be enticing to many fans, the Cowboys’ current stance indicates a strategic choice to stay the course rather than pivot to a veteran nearing the end of a storied career.
For Miller, the door remains open, as is the case with many free agents who have storied pasts and proven production. Yet at this moment, the Cowboys are content with their existing edge-rushing group and have no plans to alter their approach by bringing in a veteran of Miller’s caliber. As training camp looms, anticipation will continue to build among fans who fantasize about a DeSoto-born star donning the star on the helmet, but the 2026 season appears destined to proceed with the current Cowboys defense, rather than a late-breaking reunion with a veteran who has already left an indelible mark on the NFL.
