Norwich City midfielder Sam Field has set his sights high for the Canaries as they head into the 2026-27 Championship campaign, aiming to build on the positive momentum from last season’s turnaround. Under manager Philippe Clement, the side won 17 of their 31 league fixtures, climbing from second-bottom when he arrived to finish only eight points shy of the play-off places.
Yet Field acknowledges that a win rate of 54% still leaves room for improvement in the eyes of the Belgian head coach. “If we had a couple more weeks [last season], we all know what would have been the likelihood, so we want to build on that as quickly as possible,” Field told BBC Radio Norfolk. Listeners can hear the full interview on BBC Sounds.
Field notes that Clement’s expectations are clear: the manager aims to win every game, even if that doesn’t equate to chasing the top two. “He won’t be looking at the top two; he wants to win 46 out of 46. It’s such a good mindset to have,” Field said. Achieving that level of success demands hard work, and pre-season training has reflected that urgency.
“His teams are high intensity, and that’s what you want,” Field added. It’s hard to argue with that approach when you’re out-working opponents and performing better than them. “There’s no complaints. You’re too out of breath to complain, to be honest.”
