Earlier this offseason, the Georgia Bulldogs stopped a planned nonconference series with the Florida State Seminoles for 2027 and 2028. This time around, Georgia football is canceling another nonconference matchup with a Tallahassee, Florida program. The 2028 game against the Florida A&M Rattlers, a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team, has been mutually scrapped. Georgia and Florida A&M had never faced each other in school history prior to this cancellation. The move comes as the SEC expands to nine conference games, prompting Georgia and several other conference programs to drop certain future nonconference fixtures.
Despite these changes, the Bulldogs will continue their long-standing annual rivalry with Georgia Tech for the foreseeable future, which means two nonconference slots remain open each season. It is common for Georgia to fill at least one of those openings with a straightforward opponent from the FCS or Group of Five to ease the schedule and travel demands in nonconference play. In another line of scheduling adjustments, Georgia has also canceled future nonconference games against NC State and Louisville following the SEC’s expanded schedule.
Georgia and Florida State are still pursuing a neutral-site matchup in 2028, with Nashville, Tennessee appearing as the most likely venue and the strongest candidate to host the game. However, a formal announcement confirming a Georgia–Florida State showdown remains pending. Additionally, the Bulldogs are exploring the possibility of scheduling a future game with Louisville to further diversify their nonconference slate.
