Florida A&M football vs Georgia in 2028 canceled

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

Florida A&M football now appears to have a slot to fill on its 2028 schedule. A planned 2028 home game for Georgia against FAMU was canceled after the two schools mutually agreed to end the matchup, according to a January 13 letter obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald through an open records request. The letter, sent from Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks to Florida A&M athletic director John Davis, laid out the terms of the cancellation, and both administrators signed off on the document.
The originally scheduled game was set for September 9, 2028, in Athens and was agreed upon back in December 2020. The parties decided to terminate the contract without any financial obligations or “payment requirements” tied to the cancellation.
Earlier this year, Georgia and Florida State announced a separate mutual decision to cancel their home-and-home series for 2027 and 2028, with plans to pursue a neutral-site game instead. The focus of the current development is the 2028 matchup between Georgia and Florida A&M. There had been reports last month suggesting the potential for a neutral-site game in Nashville, but neither school has publicly confirmed those plans.
This report originally appeared in the Tallahassee Democrat in coverage noting the Florida A&M football schedule adjustment for 2028 after the Georgia game was canceled. The situation leaves Florida A&M with an open slot on a 2028 slate and marks another development in how the teams are reshaping their nonconference calendars for that season.
