Aaron Judge Injury Update Boosts One Yankees Fantasy Sleeper, Hurts Another

The New York Yankees received a promising update on Aaron Judge’s recovery this week, and while the news is welcome for the organization, it signals two distinct fantasy baseball storylines. According to Yankees insider Chris Kirschner, Judge is slated to undergo another round of imaging during the All-Star break. If the scans come back clean, it would move the superstar one step closer to returning to the heart of New York’s lineup. For fantasy managers, that potential comeback could drastically alter the value of two Yankees outfielders.
Left fielder Cody Bellinger has been among the most vexing roster headaches in recent weeks. After showing bright moments earlier in the season, his production has cooled, and opponents have not needed to respect Judge as an offensive threat. Judge’s eventual return should flip that dynamic. With the Yankees captain back in the lineup, hitting behind or around Bellinger, opposing pitchers will be forced to attack the strike zone more aggressively. That shift should yield better pitches to hit, along with more RBI and run-scoring opportunities for Bellinger.
For fantasy managers, this could represent an ideal buy-low moment. If the Bellinger manager in your league has grown impatient through his slump, now might be the perfect time to make a trade before Judge returns and potentially lifts Bellinger’s output. Yet while Bellinger stands to gain, Jasson Domínguez may be headed in the opposite direction. Domínguez has handled regular duties in right field for much of Judge’s absence, gaining steady playing time and enough opportunities to stay fantasy relevant. Once Judge is activated, however, that path becomes far murkier. The Yankees could scale Domínguez back to a part-time role, or, depending on roster construction, even send him to Triple-A if it’s determined he requires everyday at-bats elsewhere to stay productive.
That uncertainty makes Domínguez a risky hold in redraft leagues. With Judge nearing a return, fantasy managers should brace for a reduced role that could significantly erode Domínguez’s fantasy value in the latter half of the season. Judge’s upcoming re-evaluation is undoubtedly good news for the Yankees, but fantasy players should already be mapping out the ripple effects. Bellinger could emerge as one of the biggest beneficiaries once opposing pitchers must navigate a healthier Yankees lineup again, presenting an appealing window to buy low before his value climbs. Conversely, Domínguez’s path to regular playing time becomes far less certain, casting a shadow over his fantasy outlook for the rest of the year.
Sometimes the steepest fantasy moves come before the headlines. If Judge’s activation happens before the end of the season, it could redefine how teams value the surrounding Yankees pieces and create opportunities for savvy managers to capitalize on timely fluctuations in player roles and production.
