Fabrizio Romano drops huge Andrey Santos update as announcement nears

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued a significant update on Andrey Santos’ expected move to Manchester United. Recently, reports emerged that United and Chelsea have agreed a deal to enable Santos to complete a permanent transfer to Old Trafford. After missing out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, United redirected their attention to Santos. The Red Devils have long been linked with the Brazilian midfielder, who reportedly desires regular first-team football that did not appear likely at Chelsea. His chances of breaking into the Chelsea starting XI were further diminished earlier this year when Moises Caicedo extended his contract through 2033.
United are set to pay Chelsea a guaranteed £48 million plus £2 million in add-ons, with Chelsea retaining a 10 percent sell-on clause. In the previous season, Santos appeared in 43 Chelsea fixtures across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
Romano has stated that Santos has passed his medical at United. On X, the Italian journalist posted: “Andrey Santos has just completed a successful medical as new Manchester United player.” He added, “Clubs signed all documents for a £50m package deal.” He also noted that Andrey is set to sign on Friday on a contract to June 2031 with an option at Manchester United.
With the Santos deal now formally settled, United’s attention is turning to sealing the acquisition of Ederson, who is currently undergoing his medical. The completion of Ederson’s medical is expected to be the decisive factor that will determine whether the club proceeds with an official announcement.
