Buffalo Bills training camp is nearly here, scheduled for late July again at St. John Fisher University in the quaint town of Pittsford, New York. As always, training camp signals a wave of excitement for NFL enthusiasts ready to say goodbye to the offseason and dive into real football action. For the Bills, camp also marks the first major on-field work since co-owner Terry Pegula relieved Sean McDermott of his duties as head coach. That means Buffalo will enter the 2026 NFL season with Joe Brady taking the helm as a first-time head coach and Jim Leonhard serving as a first-time NFL defensive coordinator. With that leadership shake-up comes plenty of questions—chief among them, whether this new pairing can replicate the success that some rosters have achieved under different leadership and whether the coaching staff can elevate the team beyond what McDermott’s tenure delivered.
There’s no denying McDermott extracted strong regular-season results from his players, yet the Bills often faced constraints in the postseason, frequently needing Josh Allen to deliver nearly flawless performances to compensate for gaps elsewhere. That cycle isn’t sustainable, and it’s a major reason behind the leadership change. With substantial organizational changes in place, what does the upcoming season have in store for Buffalo? Which position groups are you most eager to watch when training camp opens?
Quarterback, running back, and tight end are three positions that might not appear to be hotbeds of competition at first glance, given clear leaders in each room. But the storylines could still be compelling: will there be notable battles at wide receiver, or along the offensive line? Perhaps there will be intriguing developments on the defensive side as well, whether inside the interior defensive line, at outside linebacker/edge rusher, at inside linebacker, or within the expansive unit of defensive backs. Where will your attention focus the most as training camp unfolds?
