Pedro Vite: Man United weigh £7m move for World Cup star

The World Cup has opened our eyes to a number of exciting talents on the market. Among them, Johan Manzambi has turned heads as he appears set to seal a move to Newcastle United, while Manu Kone and Mikel Oyarzabal have also attracted interest from Manchester United’s orbit. Yet it isn’t only those players drawing attention. Paraguay’s goalkeeper Orlando Gill was another World Cup standout linked with United, though a move now seems unlikely after Karl Darlow’s recent signing.
Another player who could land at Old Trafford after a standout World Cup is Ecuadorian midfielder Pedro Vite. Vite excels in tight spaces in the midfield, thriving when receiving the ball under pressure and then quickly threading passes through the lines. His first touch is consistently clean, his awareness is sharp, and he shows a knack for breaking lines with his passes. Because he can operate in any central midfield role, he fits the profile of a coach’s dream.
Vite delivered notable performances for Ecuador in the World Cup, particularly in matches against Germany and Ivory Coast, which helped boost his reputation on the global stage. According to Ole, Aston Villa have shown interest in the UNAM Pumas midfielder, but they are not alone; Manchester City and Manchester United are also reportedly keen on him. Regarding United’s interest, articles note that “Manchester United has already shown informal interest.” Aware of the market’s demand, Pumas have already indicated a price for the midfielder, with Ole revealing that “Pumas has already set a $10 million price tag for the player.”
A move for Vite at around £7.4 million could appeal to United, but questions remain about whether he is the midfielder United truly needs. After securing deals for Andrey Santos and Ederson, United face the task of targeting a top-class midfield presence. Vite, while talented, may not be the immediate game-changer United require, and if signed, he could struggle to break into the starting XI right away. That consideration alone raises doubts about whether the investment is the right one.
Ultimately, when weighing a potential move for Vite against pursuing someone like Alex Scott, the AFC Bournemouth midfielder, the latter option might appear more realistic at this stage. The evolving transfer landscape demands a balance between value, immediate impact, and long-term fit, and in this scenario, a bid for Scott could align more closely with United’s needs and priorities.
