Warriors’ Steph Curry makes final pitch for ex-Laker LeBron James to join Golden State

The Sporting News ran a piece highlighting Stephen Curry’s latest effort to recruit LeBron James to the Golden State Warriors, a pursuit the team has been openly pursuing since free agency began. Curry and James have long discussed the idea of playing together, especially in light of the chemistry they demonstrated with Team USA. The Warriors have made luring James a top priority this offseason, and Curry reportedly met with the four-time NBA champion back in June. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Warriors’ plan is to pursue pairing James with Curry in the coming weeks as free agency approaches. The source noted that the idea once seemed unlikely or a long shot, but now there appears to be more momentum and “legs” to the possibility, with Curry expected to speak with James about joining the Warriors in the weeks ahead.
Earlier in the week, Golden State’s efforts included scheduling a meeting between James and veteran forward Draymond Green as part of their ongoing recruitment push. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that James and Green were spending time together at an undisclosed location during a recent appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, a development picked up by Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar.
Curry, meanwhile, was away at a golf tournament this week and addressed the media on Thursday. When asked what his recruiting pitch to James would be, Curry gave a straightforward reply. “Do you want to play good basketball and be around people who know how to play the game?” he said, adding with a light touch, “There’s good golf in the Bay too.”
If Curry and James were to team up, they would instantly form one of the NBA’s most formidable duos. The Warriors have pulled out all the stops in their bid to land James, with Curry taking an active role in the outreach. Golden State remains an attractive destination for James, though questions linger about whether the current roster can contend for another championship. Even so, Curry’s casual quip about Bay Area golf underscored his willingness to tout every aspect of life in the region as part of the Warriors’ ongoing pitch to the future Hall of Famer. The club’s pursuit continues, and fans are watching to see if the combination of Curry and James could come to fruition in the 2026-27 season.
