Following several roster moves in NBA free agency, Philadelphia’s President of Basketball Operations, Mike Gansey, orchestrated a deal to bring Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey a new co-star. After facing Jaylen Brown in the opening round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the Sixers completed a trade to acquire Brown from the Boston Celtics.
For the past week, speculation has swirled about Joel Embiid’s thoughts on the deal. With no public reaction from Embiid, Gansey has taken on the task of speaking for the organization.

Gansey, appearing on 97.5 The Fanatic on Thursday, July 9, described Embiid as “excited” about the new alignment. “He is in a really good space right now,” Gansey said. “First offseason where he is really healthy going into it. He is fired up. I called him right after the trade, and he is excited. It will obviously be a big change, but I think they are welcoming it.” Gansey went on to share that Brown is looking forward to getting back in the gym with Embiid soon, signaling a strong push to build team chemistry ahead of the upcoming season.
