​PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — D.A. Points spent a few days at home this week, savoring what lies ahead. He will spend the rest of his life as a member of the University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame. Points, a Pekin High School graduate who once captured a state championship in golf, is set to be inducted into the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame in September. The Illini All-American from 1999 went on to a professional golf career that yielded three PGA Tour victories.
“I never imagined that was in the cards for me,” Points said during a stop in Pekin this week. “I’m so grateful, and I’m part of a really cool class. Some people might not know who I am, but I know who they all are because I’m a huge fan of all of them.”
During his visit, Points hosted the ninth annual Renewal by Andersen Junior Open, an event on the American Junior Golf Association circuit. The 54-hole tournament took place at his home course, Pekin Country Club.
Points will be joined in the 2026 Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame class by a diverse group of accomplished athletes and sports figures. The list includes Ayo Dosunmu, who earned national recognition in basketball as a former national player of the year; Jordyn Poulter, a two-time Olympian in volleyball; Howard Griffith, an NCAA-record holder in football; longtime NFL wide receiver Brandon Lloyd; soccer standout Ella Masar; Illini career basketball rebounding leader James Augustine; and Tauja Catching, a prominent figure in women’s basketball. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is slated for Sept. 11 at the State Farm Center.
