Penn State named finalist for 4-star EDGE from Class of 2028

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Penn State has a storied track record of producing standout defensive players who excel at both the collegiate and professional levels. Alumni like Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. are recent reminders of the program’s ability to develop game-changing talent on that side of the ball. Yet, despite this defensive pedigree, the Nittany Lions have not always established a deep, consistent pipeline of elite pass rushers. The current roster does offer hopeful signs, with defensive end Max Granville drawing attention, but the team is actively seeking another high-potential contributor to bolster the edge position.
Recently, Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported that Penn State is a finalist for four-star edge rusher George Parkinson IV. Parkinson, a large defensive lineman, has the Nittany Lions in a six-team mix that includes notable Big Ten rivals Oregon and Ohio State. They will also contend with the LSU Tigers for his services. Being a Pennsylvania native, Parkinson IV’s ties to the region could work in Penn State’s favor, a factor that sometimes proves decisive in recruiting battles.
However, it’s worth tempering expectations. Penn State has occasionally faced challenges recruiting within its own state and the surrounding areas. For instance, just last month the program missed on a four-star cornerback from Pittsburgh, Zachary Gleason Jr., who chose to pursue his college career elsewhere. The Parkinson IV recruitment, therefore, is not a foregone conclusion, and the Nittany Lions cannot afford to assume victory solely based on his roots or regional appeal.
Penn State already boasts a handful of four-star prospects from the Class of 2028 who have committed, and adding Parkinson IV would provide an additional boost to a class that ranks among the top nationally. Landing a player of Parkinson IV’s caliber would not only add immediate athletic impact but also elevate the overall recruiting profile for the 2028 cycle. As the process unfolds, the Nittany Lions’ ability to close in-state talent, coupled with their track record for developing pass rushers, will be scrutinized by fans and evaluators alike.
