Could the Vikings Be the Team That Lures Joey Bosa Back for One More Season?

With training camps set to begin across the NFL, former Los Angeles Chargers star Joey Bosa remains one of the most high-profile names still available on the open market. While some in the league believe his playing days may be behind him, the Minnesota Vikings could be among the few teams offering both the financial flexibility and a roster need that would make a compelling pitch. According to Over the Cap, the Vikings currently sit with roughly $13.1 million in available salary cap space, giving new general manager Nolan Teasley ample room to explore a veteran addition if the organization decides it needs more pass-rushing depth before the regular season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently said it is “more likely than not” that Bosa has already played his final NFL snap, though he acknowledged that the right opportunity could still lure the five-time Pro Bowler back onto the field. “If a situation came along that entices him enough to come out and play again, absolutely,” Schefter remarked, while noting that several expected landing spots have already passed on deals. The Vikings may not have been viewed as an obvious destination earlier in the offseason, but their current edge-rushing situation makes them an intriguing fit.
Minnesota fields a fairly solid pass rush duo in veteran Andrew Van Ginkel and 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner, who is expected to assume a significantly larger role in his second season. However, the depth behind those two remains relatively unproven after the organization moved on from Jonathan Greenard on the second day of the NFL Draft. That lack of experienced depth could leave the door open for a veteran signing if the Vikings decide another proven pass rusher is necessary to help bolster a squad with playoff aspirations.
Even though injuries limited him in the latter stages of his career, Bosa’s résumé is undeniable. The former No. 3 overall pick earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after entering the league in 2016 and developed into one of the NFL’s premier edge defenders during his time with the Chargers. He finished his Chargers tenure as a five-time Pro Bowler and totaled 72 career sacks, placing him second in franchise history. He also added a Pro Bowl appearance with the Buffalo Bills during his lone season with the team in 2025.
If Bosa is waiting for the right opportunity rather than any opportunity, Minnesota checks several boxes. The Vikings possess the cap space to maneuver without compromising future flexibility, a competitive roster capable of a deep playoff push, and a defensive scheme that wouldn’t require him to shoulder an overwhelming workload. Whether the Vikings genuinely intend to pursue him remains uncertain, but as training camps approach, Minnesota stands out as one of the more logical landing spots should Bosa decide he isn’t ready to retire just yet.
