Jaylen Brown’s NBA Loyalty Admission, Tells IShowSpeed to Recruit LeBron James

Jaylen Brown’s offseason has been anything but ordinary. Just weeks after the Boston Celtics traded the four-time All-Star to the Philadelphia 76ers in one of the NBA’s biggest blockbuster moves, Brown offered a candid perspective on how the swap reshaped his view of life in the league. While attending the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal between France and Morocco with popular streamer IShowSpeed, Brown opened up about a hard lesson the business side of basketball had delivered, according to Bleacher Report.
“It’s a crazy business, bro,” Brown told IShowSpeed during the livestream. “Don’t become a basketball player.” He summed up his feelings even more plainly: “There’s no loyalty, there’s no love… They packed me up, sayonara chat, I’m out of here.”
These remarks came less than two weeks after Boston sent Brown to the rival 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. The trade startled many across the league, especially given Brown’s MVP-caliber season that helped keep the Celtics near the top of the Eastern Conference despite Jayson Tatum’s injury.
Boston’s longtime president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, later explained that the organization believed allocating roughly 70 percent of its salary cap to Brown and Tatum limited its ability to build sufficient depth under the NBA’s cap structure. Stevens repeatedly framed the decision as a pursuit of “optionality,” a term he used to describe the strategic shift behind the move.
Brown, for his part, offered a more personal takeaway. While noting the trade caught him by surprise, he also signaled a readiness to embrace his new role with the 76ers. In the same livestream, Brown tapped IShowSpeed to help him stage an audacious recruiting pitch to LeBron James: “You gotta tell LeBron he gotta pull up, man. Pull up to Philly.” IShowSpeed joined in the gag, passionately delivering, “LeBron, pull up to Philly. Think about it. LeBron, Jaylen Brown, PG13…” before Brown playfully cut in with a laugh, “He’s gone. He’s gone, bro.”
That moment stood out as one of the lighter highlights from the stream, particularly since IShowSpeed mistakenly listed Paul George in an imagined lineup—despite George, who had been traded to Boston in the deal for Brown, actually remaining with the Celtics as part of the package.
Even amid the humor, Brown’s remarks about loyalty underscored the complex emotions surrounding his departure from the franchise that drafted him in 2016. During ten seasons in Boston, Brown emerged as one of the league’s premier two-way wings, helping the Celtics capture the 2024 NBA championship and showcasing a career arc that included some of his strongest performances. The trade to Philadelphia thus landed as one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, casting Brown’s future in a new light while leaving many to wonder how his next chapter will unfold.
Brown’s comments also signal that, beyond the on-court impact, his offseason has been a period of reflection on the nature of professional basketball, loyalty, and the priorities players grapple with once they are moved to a new organization. As he starts this new chapter with the 76ers, observers will be watching closely to see how his perspective translates into his play and leadership within Philadelphia.
