NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma baseball is expanding its coaching staff. Fresh off a national championship, head coach Skip Johnson is bringing in his son, Tyler Johnson, to join the Sooners as an assistant on the coaching staff, according to a report from D1Baseball published Thursday night.
Tyler Johnson most recently worked as the recruiting coordinator and an assistant coach at Dallas Baptist this past season. Prior to that, he led McLennan Community College as the head coach, after previously serving as an assistant there as well. During his six-year tenure at McLennan, 44 players earned all-conference honors, and seven were selected in the MLB Draft. In a single season with the Patriots, he helped develop five All-Conference USA selections.
Following Oklahoma’s national championship celebration at Kimrey Family Stadium on June 24, OU’s recruiting coordinator and former player Todd Butler accepted the same position at Florida.
Johnson brings a robust recruiting background to Norman, where his presence is expected to bolster the Sooners’ ability to attract high-level talent as they prepare for future seasons.
