Up first are the quarterbacks.. Following minicamp, Liam Coen evaluated what he had seen from Lawrence during offseason programs and is quite pleased with the results. A key element behind a Year 2 jump for Lawrence under Coen can be the continuity of being in the same system for a second offseason. Beyond Lawrence’s ability to take care of the football in these practices, Coen was also impressed with the offensive operation pre-snap.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. One area where Coen did want to see continued growth from Lawrence was in his chemistry with his wideouts and in his willingness to push the ball downfield. By all accounts, Lawrence performed well on those downfield and tight window throws.. Mullens didn’t have the best showing during minicamp, but he does bring valuable experience to the backup quarterback role. In addition to being ready to step in, the backup provides an extra set of eyes and can be a sounding board for ideas for the starter on the practice field, on the sidelines, and in the meeting rooms.. These two are competing for the QB3 role. For what it’s worth, the Jaguars only rostered two quarterbacks last season, with the third being on the practice squad.
