Manchester City have secured a five-year contract with their international goalkeeper, keeping him at the club through to the summer of 2031. As part of the deal, the 20-year-old shot-stopper will join Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan for the entirety of the 2026/27 season, marking a return to City after spells away. The young keeper, whose elder brother Shea is a former City player, previously spent time in the Club’s Academy before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2021 at the age of 16. He made his senior professional debut for Wednesday in January 2024 and went on to register 36 senior appearances for the South Yorkshire club. During that period, he established himself as one of the most highly regarded young goalkeepers in the Championship, with his promise also recognized at international level, having earned 12 caps for Northern Ireland to date.
Pierce (the player) expressed his thrill at rejoining Manchester City and spoke of his eagerness to begin the next chapter of his career. “To be back at Manchester City is a very special and proud moment for me and my family,” he said. “I know firsthand what a special club City is, and I am incredibly excited about what lies ahead. City places a strong emphasis on developing young players, so I am confident that my loan to QPR will help me grow and refine my abilities. I am ready to give everything for a successful season in the Championship and to return to Manchester later as a improved goalkeeper.”
Hugo Viana, Director of Football, commented on the signing: “Pierce is a player whose development we have tracked closely, and we are delighted to welcome him back to Manchester City. He has already learned a great deal during his time at Sheffield Wednesday, yet he remains very young and hungry to advance further. He knows the Club well and is closely aligned with the values we share. We are very pleased to have secured Pierce’s signing and we look forward to supporting him as he continues his career development.”
Manchester City also issued a warm welcome to Pierce as he prepares for his loan spell at QPR. The Club emphasized its confidence in his potential and its commitment to supporting his growth through regular development opportunities. Everyone at Manchester City wishes Pierce the very best for a successful loan period at Queens Park Rangers and looks forward to tracking his progress as he continues to develop into a top-level goalkeeper.
