There’s no such thing as a quiet offseason for the Memphis Grizzlies.. Unlike recent years, there isn’t a contract extension for a star player dominating the conversation. Still, the Grizzlies enter the summer with plenty of uncertainty surrounding the roster.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Several players remain under contract, but there’s no guarantee all of them will remain in Memphis for the 2026-27 season. The Grizzlies own three picks in the top 32 of the 2026 NBA Draft, creating a strong possibility the roster will see some changes.. Memphis has 15 players under standard contracts. Factoring in the unlikely return of Taj Gibson and the death of Brandon Clarke, that number effectively drops to 13. Even then, the Grizzlies may need additional roster flexibility to navigate the draft and free agency.. Here are some decisions that could shape Memphis’ roster outlook moving forward.. 1 / 20. Memphis Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman gives his exit interview on April 13, 2026 at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.. (Stu Boyd II- The Commercial Appeal). With the 2025-26 season over, NBA players can now officially be traded, meaning the clock is ticking on whether star guard Ja Morant will remain in Memphis.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Morant has been involved in trade rumors since Jan. 9, when two sources told The Commercial Appeal that the Grizzlies were listening to offers.. Memphis ultimately kept Morant through the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but the franchise traded co-star Jaren Jackson Jr., signaling a shift toward a younger rebuild.. Morant’s future could depend on the level of interest from other teams. If the Grizzlies receive an offer they view as worthwhile, Memphis may soon begin searching for its next franchise point guard.. There is little doubt the Grizzlies will pick up 21-year-old GG Jackson’s team option. The bigger question is what comes after that.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Will Memphis discuss a contract extension? Will the franchise allow Jackson to play out the season and earn a larger payday? Or could the Grizzlies explore moving him in a trade?. The 6-foot-9 Jackson showed considerable growth last season, but he still appears to sit behind players such as Zach Edey and Cedric Coward in the organization’s long-term plans. His future in Memphis could ultimately depend on what additional moves the Grizzlies make to create roster flexibility.. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope holds a $21.6 million player option. There isn’t much mystery surrounding that decision for the 6-5 guard. He is expected to pick it up.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. In his first season with Memphis, Caldwell-Pope averaged his fewest minutes and points per game since his rookie year. At 33 years old and entering his 14th NBA season, it’s fair to question how much he still has left to offer.. His contract places Memphis in an interesting position. The Grizzlies could keep Caldwell-Pope and hope he rebounds into a meaningful contributor next season, or they could explore trade possibilities. However, moving his contract would likely require Memphis to attach additional assets, which may not align with the franchise’s current rebuilding direction.. Ty Jerome and Santi Aldama are both under contract through the 2026-27 season, but questions remain about their long-term futures in Memphis.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Jerome appeared in just 15 games this season, but the 6-5 guard averaged 19.7 points and 5.7 assists during those appearances. If that production translates over a larger sample size, it seems unlikely Jerome would pick up his $9.7 million player option for the 2027-28 season.. If Memphis wants to get ahead of that possibility, the franchise could explore trading Jerome to avoid potentially losing him for nothing. The Grizzlies could also wait to evaluate his production before revisiting the situation at the trade deadline. Still, if a roster crunch develops, Jerome could carry meaningful trade value.. Aldama’s situation is a bit more manageable for Memphis. The 7-foot center has a $17 million team option for the 2027-28 season. Ideally, the Grizzlies could allow this season to play out before making a decision, but Aldama’s contract is movable at a reasonable number if Memphis wants to act early on a potentially difficult decision next summer..
