NORTH CANTON — Walsh University’s Tim Mead is set to join the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Mead stands among seven coaches who will be inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame on January 8 in Chicago, with the ceremony taking place during the association’s annual convention.
Mead, a Walsh alum and the Cavaliers’ all-time winningest coach, has compiled 983 victories over 44 seasons. His tenure has included guiding Walsh to the NAIA World Series in 2007 and reaching the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 2022. Earlier this season, Mead reached the milestone of his 900th career win during Walsh’s home series against Ashland.
“I am greatly honored and humbled to join such an elite group of coaches in the ABCA Hall of Fame,” Mead said in a university press release. “I have been incredibly blessed to coach for 44-plus years at my alma mater, alongside absolutely outstanding coaches and players. I am grateful to my family, the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and all the past and current administrations that have allowed me to serve our student-athletes at Walsh University.”
In addition to his coaching duties, Mead serves on the ABCA board of directors and chairs the ABCA Hall of Fame committee. His leadership roles have included terms as president of the ABCA and president of the NAIA Coaches Association. He was honored with the Robert E. Smith Achievement Award in 2017.
Mead will be among more than 350 individuals inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame, an organization whose inaugural class was inducted in 1966.
