The 2025-26 athletic year is all wrapped and packed, so it’s time for awards season. First up is the boys Team of the Year.. All awards will be for only Sioux Falls area teams.. A new award will be voted on each week over the summer, and ArgusLeader.com readers will get the chance to pick the winners. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 19.. Advertisement. Brandon Valley went 11-1 to win the Class 11AAA state championship, handing Sioux Falls Lincoln both losses on the season. The Lynx also beat a quality Harrisburg team twice and started the season 8-0.. Brandon Valley’s lone loss came to Sioux Falls Jefferson, 24-21, in the final regular season game. The Lynx bounced back with a pair of dominant showings in the first two postseason games.. Senior running back Levi Veskrna paced the offense with 1,741 yards and 34 touchdowns on the ground. Senior quarterback Briggs Knutson threw for 832 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions, and junior wideout Jack Blomgren had 34 catches for 484 yards and six scores. South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and Iowa commit Hudson Parliament anchored a strong offensive line.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Senior Cohen Hartz led the Lynx with eight sacks, senior Dylan Williams paced the team with 56 tackles and four fumble recoveries to go with two interceptions, and senior Nolan Pudwill picked three passes off.. Lincoln only suffered one defeat all season en route to a Class AA state championship. The 15-1-1 Patriots avenged their lone loss to Sioux Falls Jefferson in the state title game with a dominant 6-0 win.. It was the program’s third consecutive state championship.. Lincoln outscored its opponents 76-8 and won its four postseason games by a combined score of 26-0.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. The duo of senior Brady Stamp and sophomore Miles Rolfing led the Patriots’ offense. Stamp had 56 points on 24 goals and eight assists, while Rolfing added 43 points on 19 goals and five assists. Seniors Salmonsi David and Isaac Herrboldt each contributed over 20 points and junior Jacob Burchett had over 10 for Lincoln.. This is a program that’s been on the rise recently, and turned that into a perfect 25-0 season culminating with a Class A state championship in 2025-26. West Central beat defending champion Sioux Falls Christian twice, once in the regular season and again in the state title game.. Dave Hollenbeck, a longtime head coach at St. Thomas More, moved across the state and led the Trojans to their first state championship in 25 years in his first season.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. West Central leaned on a three-headed monster of senior Will Kuhl and juniors Conor Mebius and Hayden Heier. The 6-foot-10 Kuhl averaged 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds, Mebius went for 18.4 points and 5.0 assists per game and Heier scored 10.0 points per night.. Lincoln had a couple state records fall this year, and capped it off with a team state title. The Patriots had nine state champions, with four of those coming from relays.. Javon Haukaas won state titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Evan Abild won the 400-meter dash state title, Zachary Matos topped the field in the high jump, Lucas Honner won the javelin and the 4×100-meter, 4×200-meter, 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams all finished first.. Honner broke the javelin state record at 199 feet at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays, and the relay team of Haukaas, Abild, Isaac Herrboldt and Zyan Conrad set the state record in both the 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter races.. Haukaas also ended tied for second all-time in the 100-meter dash, Conrad finished third all-time in the 400-meter dash, and the 4×100-meter relay team of Haukaas, Herrboldt, Conrad and Abild and 4×800-meter relay team of Herrboldt, Miles Lechtenberg, Frank Vandy and Tyrus Needles both ended third in state history also.. Brandon Valley became the first team in a decade to repeat as the SDHSBA Class A champion, and the Lynx had to do it in comeback fashion. They scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stop No. 8 Watertown from completing a dream weekend.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. Brandon Valley went 25-6 overall and 15-3 in South Dakota Class A play, losing to Harrisburg, Watertown and Sioux Falls Lincoln. The Lynx started 7-0 in those games.. Juniors Jack Blomgren and Caleb Severin and seniors Bryton Stroh and Bryce Plucker all had an OPS over 1.000, while seniors Brayden Knutson, Grady Gindorff and Max Peters also had significant contributions.. Senior Taylor Melby tossed 34.2 innings at a 1.41 ERA, while Severin added 36.1 frames at a 2.12 ERA and Blomgren struck out 31 batters in 14 innings..
