2028 Summer Olympics volunteer portal opens soon: How to apply

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Applications to volunteer for the 2028 Summer Olympics open in just a week. Games-time volunteers can be assigned to one of eight role categories, including communications, ceremonies, driving, operations, experience, sport, medical, and technology. Some opportunities require specific background experience and fall into six specialty areas: doping control, driving, emergency response, language proficiency, medical, and security.
The only requirements to apply are age (18 or older), English proficiency, and availability to work a minimum of 10 non-consecutive shifts of about eight hours each during the 2028 Olympic or Paralympic Games period. Oklahoma City will host two Olympic events: softball and canoe slalom. Applications open on July 14. LA28 expects to need around 60,000 volunteers to assist with events in Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, and the cities hosting early-round soccer matches. The volunteer period runs from March 2028 through August 2028, beginning a few months before the Games.
If you are selected from the applications, you will be invited to participate in an in-person assessment, which may be held virtually or at the Volunteer Experience Center in Los Angeles. Those who succeed the in-person assessment will be notified by email and receive an offer in the volunteer portal. In the portal, applicants can indicate their preferred location and any special skills that may qualify them for a specialized role. Applicants cannot choose a specific area to volunteer but can list their top three preferred volunteer role categories.
The LA2028 Olympic Games are scheduled from July 14 to July 29, 2028, with the Paralympic Games running August 15 to 27, 2028. Oklahoma City will not host Paralympic events. In Oklahoma City, softball will take place at Devon Park from July 23 to July 29, with a six-team tournament. Canoe slalom will be at the OKC Whitewater Center and features six events: men’s and women’s kayak, men’s and women’s canoe single, and men’s and women’s kayak cross, running from July 14 to July 22.
To purchase tickets for the 2028 Olympics, you must register for purchase slots. For Oklahoma City residents, registration opened early, and tickets went on sale in early April. Ticket prices vary by sport and zone, with the cheapest tickets around $28. Organizers say nearly half of all tickets will be under $200, and more than 75% will be under $400.
