Angel Reese moves one step closer to WNBA suspension after latest technical foul

Angel Reese moves one step closer to a WNBA suspension after her latest technical foul, according to The Sporting News. The Sporting News is listed as a preferred source. Reese continues to be one of the league’s most productive players, yet she is treading a increasingly narrow line with league officials. The Atlanta Dream star picked up her seventh technical foul of the 2026 season during Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Storm, placing her just one technical away from an automatic one-game suspension. With Atlanta vying for playoff positioning, Reese’s growing disciplinary bill has become a storyline worth watching alongside her on-court production.
The incident occurred midway through the second quarter when Reese, driving to the basket, believed she had been fouled after a no-call and argued with the officials as play continued, resulting in the technical foul. The penalty carries heavy consequences. Under WNBA rules, a player who reaches eight technical fouls in the regular season is automatically suspended for one game and fined $1,500. Reese’s seventh technical also carried a $1,000 fine, leaving little margin for error for the remainder of the season.
If Reese reaches eight technical fouls, Atlanta would be forced to play without one of its biggest stars. Despite the mounting fouls, Reese has been one of the WNBA’s most impactful forwards this season. Entering Thursday’s game against Seattle, the 24-year-old was averaging 14.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game, serving as a cornerstone of Atlanta’s lineup alongside Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard. Her relentless, physical style has powered the Dream throughout the season, but it has also led to frequent run-ins with officials. Reese has consistently played with emotion, and these interactions have now placed her at risk of a suspension. As the Dream aims for a deep postseason run, keeping Reese on the floor is essential.
The technical fouls aren’t the only disciplinary concern Reese faces. She currently has two flagged fouls this season. Under WNBA rules, players accumulate an automatic one-game suspension upon reaching four flagrant points. That means Reese is approaching suspension territory via two separate channels. If she receives another technical foul, she would automatically miss one game. Further suspensions would also follow every subsequent even-numbered technical foul, meaning her 10th, 12th, and any later even-numbered technicals would trigger additional one-game suspensions.
For now, the Dream can still count on their star forward. But with the clock ticking toward potential suspensions, Reese and Atlanta will be navigating a fine line between stellar production and compliance with league rules. The situation remains a focal point as the team pursues a strong postseason showing and Reese continues to be a central figure in their on-court success.
