Fabrizio Romano confirms £14.9m bid for Liverpool target who instantly fixes RB woes

Nottingham Forest have submitted a €17.5 million (£14.9 million) bid for Feyenoord fullback Givairo Read. Fabrizio Romano, writing on X (formerly Twitter), said Forest’s initial offer was rejected by the Eredivisie champions. Read, 20, is highly regarded and has attracted interest from Liverpool, who are currently dealing with their own right-back concerns. Romano indicated that Forest are expected to come back with an improved bid soon, while Voetbal International’s Martijn Krabbendam, via Sport Witness, noted that an offer of €25m (£21.3m) would likely prompt Feyenoord to open talks with any potential suitor.
With Liverpool’s own issues at right-back, some wonder why the Reds aren’t entering the fray. The rationale could be that Andoni Iraola wants to assess Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong in pre-season (beginning around July 13) before approving a move that would reinforce the right-back department. It’s possible that the Basque coach already feels the position is adequately covered by the Northern Irish and Dutch pair. However, given durability concerns surrounding both players, Liverpool cannot afford to head into next season with two partial solutions at right-back.
Brentford’s Michael Kayode, who had appeared to be a viable option, has already signed a long-term deal, removing that route. Read’s 2025/26 injury record isn’t ideal—though a hamstring issue at 19 isn’t unusual—and he already has 54 senior appearances for Feyenoord at the age of 20. The question remains: should Liverpool simply stand by and watch Forest secure a lower-cost alternative at a time when the club must be prudent with its spending?
To many, it would seem unwise for Richard Hughes and his team to let this play out, particularly given persistent links to European heavyweights like Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Givairo Read’s potential is widely acknowledged. When asked to choose between Manchester City and Liverpool as his preferred Premier League club, Read told Voetbal International: “Liverpool, for sure! Nothing else, no one else.”
