Colts Tyler Warren ranked among top TEs in 2026; Scouts, execs weigh in

After completing his inaugural NFL season, Tyler Warren of the Indianapolis Colts has already established himself as one of the premier tight ends in the league. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler continues to assemble his rankings, this time placing Warren among the top five tight ends entering the 2026 season. What sets these rankings apart is the breadth of input: 70 NFL executives, coaches, and scouts served as voters, and Fowler also factors in in-depth research, interviews, and film analysis conducted by Matt Bowen. With all of this input considered, Warren is ranked as the fifth-best tight end in football heading into 2026.
An NFC scout told Fowler that Warren “lived up to expectations,” describing him as a true Y who can hold his own at the point of attack in the run game while also translating his versatile, game-changing receiving ability from his Penn State days. Warren closed his rookie year as one of the league’s most productive tight ends, recording 76 receptions for 817 yards and four touchdowns, and he earned a Pro Bowl nod in recognition of his performance.
Yet Warren’s influence extends beyond the passing game. His run-blocking ability and his overall versatility provide a level of unpredictability for opposing defenses, allowing the Colts to deploy him in a variety of roles. This flexibility gives head coach Shane Steichen more options when devising game plans, creating opportunities not only for Warren but also for his teammates. An NFL personnel evaluator emphasized Warren’s dual-threat potential, noting that he can overpower a defender in the run game on one play and then win as a receiver on the next.
While Warren’s first season was impressive, many players make noticeable leaps in their second year, often aided by the experience gained and the continuity of being in the same system for a second offseason. That familiarity can foster significant improvement, and Warren is clearly focused on building on his strong foundation.
One area Warren is actively targeting this offseason is enhanced separation on his route running. By creating more separation, he can generate more explosive plays and become even more difficult for defenders to cover.
This analysis appears on Colts Wire, which previously highlighted Warren’s top-5 ranking among tight ends for 2026 and the industry-wide input from scouts and executives weighing in on his trajectory. Warren’s progression remains a key storyline for the Colts as they aim to maximize his impact in the coming season.
