Monga appears unfazed by pressure

At 11 years old, Jeremy Monga was part of a Coventry City program that offered specialized one-on-one coaching and attracted talent from numerous academies across the country, extending all the way to the Premier League. “Initially, Jeremy was quite a reserved character, but he carries himself in the right way,” says Callum Powell of CP Coaching Academy in an interview with BBC Sport. “He conducts himself well and is very polite and well-mannered. He brings a good energy, but not the kind that is loud, boisterous, or in your face.” Powell notes that Monga remains focused, getting his head down and working hard, and when he has the ball, he’s not shy about showing what he can do.
So, even at that young age, what did Powell identify as his strongest attributes? Powell highlights Monga’s ball manipulation and dribbling as core strengths, but he adds that the most thrilling aspect of watching Jeremy is his ability to react quickly and beat opponents. “His footwork, agility, and technical ability are superior to most players his age. This is why he has drawn so much interest. The way he shifts his body while moving at high speed is a rare trait to possess.”
Beyond his coaching, Powell continues, Monga also plays in the lower tiers of the English football pyramid, and his attitude reminds him of an England striker who is currently featuring at a World Cup. “I grew up and played with Ivan Toney at Northampton, through the academy and into the scholars,” Powell recalls. “You look at him and see he has great technical ability, but you would never have predicted what he would go on to achieve.” Jeremy, in Powell’s view, shares a similar mindset to Ivan: he is unfazed by pressure, and in fact, he is motivated by it. That mental edge, Powell argues, is one of the defining characteristics that separates top players from the rest.
Working with professionals and the most talented youngsters, Powell believes the distinguishing factor is mentality and mindset, and he sees that same abundance in Jeremy. “It’s up to Jeremy to deliver the performances and put in the work to reach his goals, but I have no doubt he will go on to achieve great things there, and this move is nothing short of unbelievable for him.” Reports indicate that Manchester City had agreed on a £12.5 million transfer to sign Monga from Leicester City, a move framed by many as a significant step in his career and a potential catalyst for a brighter future in English football.
