NBA Summer League action continues as the scene shifts from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Las Vegas, Nevada. Former Iowa basketball standouts Bennett Stirtz, Payton Sandfort, and Josh Dix are all on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Summer League roster, while Brendan Hausen is part of the Memphis Grizzlies’ Summer League squad. Hausen had a productive outing in the Grizzlies’ 96-82 defeat to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, knocking down five 3-pointers and finishing with 21 points.
All eyes were on Sandfort, who endured a rough Tuesday showing after going 0-for-9 from the field and being held scoreless in 19 minutes during OKC’s 103-69 loss to the Utah Jazz. Still, this marks the latest chapter in a Summer League that has already highlighted Sandfort’s scoring ability. Earlier in the week, he delivered two strong performances: 13 points for the Thunder on July 4, followed by a game-high 25 points, including four triples, on July 6.
Dix appeared to find his rhythm on Tuesday, delivering his best summer performance yet with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Stirtz did not play for the Thunder on Tuesday, but he has contributed in the early stages of Oklahoma City’s Summer League slate, posting 10 points in the Thunder’s first game and nine points in the second. Across the board, the Iowa alumni are putting in work and continuing to compete as the Summer League games roll on.
All four players—Stirtz, Sandfort, Dix, and Hausen—return to action on Friday. The schedule features a doubleheader from Las Vegas, with fans able to catch several Iowa-linked prospects in action. At 7 p.m. CT, the Memphis Grizzlies will face the Chicago Bulls at the Thomas & Mack Center. Then, at 9 p.m. CT, Stirtz and the Thunder will take the floor against the Los Angeles Lakers in Vegas. For fans following Hawkeye connections, these games offer a chance to see how the former Iowa stars are progressing in the professional summer showcase.
