After wrapping up his inaugural morning session at the Valdebebas training complex, José Mourinho, newly named Real Madrid manager, headed to the club’s television network for his first official interview in his new role. “Words fail to capture how this feels, because it’s a mission,” he began. “This isn’t about worrying about myself or whether I’ll win a lot or a little. My purpose is to help everyone become better: the players, the staff, and everyone connected with the club. I want to foster a culture of hard work, responsibility, ambition, and something I know well—the honor of working for Real Madrid. I genuinely embrace this concept. It isn’t just about working at Real Madrid; it’s about working for Real Madrid. And with that mission-driven spirit, I am here.”
Mourinho spoke at length about his plan for the 2026-27 pre-season, emphasizing a positive, forward-looking approach. “We have the next two weeks to approach this with positivity, because, of course, I’d like to have all the players here. The mindset should be optimistic—this is about getting to know the players I’ll be guiding and giving them the chance to get to know me as well. During the preseason, many of these players will also be with Castilla, and I’m eager to contribute to the growth of that area. Here we are, and I’m confident that a world champion will join us. I come with strong faith and a deep love for this club, and with the motto ¡Hala Madrid y nada más!” he added.
The Portuguese coach also highlighted the ongoing collaboration with Real Madrid’s front office, noting that his arrival did not represent a last-minute decision but the culmination of extensive planning. “We have been working intensively for a long time with the club’s structure at various levels. Today, technology enables us to function even without constant physical presence, so today was about arriving and validating everything that has already been done and identifying what remains to be accomplished,” he concluded.
Mourinho’s remarks underscored a deliberate, mission-oriented approach focused on collective development and the long-term success of Real Madrid. He reinforced his commitment to integrating with the club’s existing framework, strengthening relationships with players across the squad, and leveraging Castilla’s talent alongside first-team prospects. As preparations for the 2026-27 season begin, Mourinho’s vision centers on building a culture of excellence, accountability, and unity—principles he believes are central to Real Madrid’s esteemed tradition.
