Cardinale: Milan work ‘as a team’, ‘I approve every single cent’

Milan owner Gerry Cardinale insists the club’s new Rossoneri management operates as a team, while stressing that he personally approves every penny and is the sole decision-maker who grants the final green light on transfers. Cardinale spoke to reporters again after Ruben Amorim’s unveiling press conference, offering fresh insights into Milan’s new era in a recent interview with Calcio&Finanza. “No one at Milan has approval rights at any threshold in the transfer market, apart from me,” said the Milan owner. “I approve every single cent, and I’m the only one who gives the final green light on the transfer market.”
The Rossoneri have already wrapped up two summer signings. First, they recruited Portugal international Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that could rise to €70 million with add-ons. In September, Milan were pictured with their fresh new lineup, highlighting Cardinale’s vision for a more aggressive recruitment strategy. The club’s activity this summer also included Lazio’s Mario Gila, who is in Milan to undergo medical tests ahead of a €30 million transfer, bringing Milan’s total spending for the window to around €100 million.
Cardinale emphasized the one-sided nature of his approval power, saying, “In the way we operate, my power of approval is one-sided.” Yet he reinforced the idea that the process remains collaborative: “And then one important thing: as I said at the press conference, we do things as a team. So the team will continue to make recommendations, and we will work together. We have a lot of input from the coach and my team. But in the end, when the time comes to make a decision, I approve it.”
Milan’s season recently took a downturn as they failed to secure a spot in the Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign. In the wake of that disappointment, Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed and replaced by former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who has agreed to a three-year contract at San Siro. The club’s leadership remains committed to building a competitive squad through a tightly coordinated process, with Cardinale at the apex of approval while maintaining a structure that values input from the coaching staff and the rest of the management team.
