After a handful of warm-up games in the Bay Area for the California Classic, the Golden State Warriors opened their Las Vegas Summer League slate on Thursday afternoon with a matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. The spotlight centered on two former Michigan Wolverines who shared the court as teammates in college—Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr.—facing each other for the first time in Summer League play. Both ex-Wolverines delivered standout performances in their debuts.
Lendeborg authored a double-double, piling up 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including two made three-pointers, while collecting 10 rebounds and six assists. He logged 28 minutes as the Warriors earned a 101-90 win in Las Vegas. His former college partner, Johnson, responded with a game-high 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting, adding eight rebounds and three assists.
LJ Cryer, a second-year guard for Golden State, led the team with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting, accompanied by seven assists and four rebounds across 28 minutes. Cryer showcased his outside stroke, draining five of eight attempts from beyond the arc, and he caught fire in the second quarter, tallying 16 of his 25 points in that frame.
Second-round pick Lajae Jones contributed off the bench, scoring 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting in 15 minutes, while also grabbing five rebounds and recording a block. Lachlan Olbrich, who impressed during the California Classic, stayed productive, finishing with 12 points in 15 minutes off the bench on 2-of-8 shooting, along with two rebounds.
The Warriors will enjoy Friday and Saturday off before returning to action on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder. This recap originally appeared on Warriors Wire. Follow Warriors Wire for ongoing coverage of Summer League action and more.
