Lane Kiffin and his staff have the Tigers on a recruiting heater right now. Considering this group hasn’t even been together for a full seven months, the quality of the class, the number of recruits, and the sheer volume of commitments they’ve assembled in recent months have been nothing short of astonishing. Even when accounting for the prospects they’ve missed on, their ability to consistently bring some of the nation’s top players to campus for official visits has been equally impressive.
When it comes to recruiting, relationships matter. This staff may have had prior connections with some players before arriving at LSU, but switching schools and moving into a new region can just as easily push recruits away as it can attract new names. Yet in a relatively short period, this group has built strong relationships across the 2027 class and has helped recruits understand the LSU brand they now represent.
That includes the nation’s No. 1 prospect, Jalen Brewster. Brewster had some familiarity with the staff before the coaching change, but the momentum truly accelerated when Lane Kiffin brought back Coach O and secured Brewster for an early official visit. During that visit, several clips of Brewster interacting with Coach O went viral, underscoring that a genuine connection had formed. Since leaving Baton Rouge, Brewster has consistently showcased LSU on his social channels, nearly daily posting photos or videos of himself training in LSU gear. In the same period, he has mentioned Texas Tech, the school he currently intends to attend, only a couple of times.
The Tigers have elevated this recruiting class toward the fringe of a top-10 nationally, even without Brewster’s potential inclusion. Behind the scenes, the LSU staff continues answering questions and meeting every challenge in a focused effort to flip the nation’s top prospect from Texas Tech. Brewster even chronicled his LSU official visit on his YouTube channel, and his photoshoot captured authentic reactions to being inside Tiger Stadium and on LSU’s campus.
Earlier this summer, many observers viewed Brewster’s recruitment as a three-team race, with Texas Tech leading and LSU and Florida trying to close the gap. As summer progressed, sources close to Brewster’s recruitment narrowed the field to LSU and Texas Tech, with many around LSU feeling strongly that the Tigers are in an excellent position to land him. July has largely functioned as a de facto early signing period for recruiting, and the commitments made during this month tend to stick. There is growing sentiment around Brewster and his camp that they would like to have his recruitment settled before he begins his senior season at Cedar Hill High School.
In the bigger picture, LSU’s 2027 recruiting class is being built on strong relationships, strategic visits, and relentless persistence. The staff’s ability to cultivate bonds across elite prospects, coupled with the national attention the program is drawing, positions LSU to maintain momentum well beyond the current cycle. If the Tigers can continue translating interest into commitments and keep prospects engaged through the summer and into the fall, this class could continue to rise and solidify LSU’s place among the top contenders in the nation.
