In April, Shaquille O’Neal and TNT Sports announced plans to launch Dunkman, a dedicated professional dunking league, and on Thursday night, TNT Sports confirmed the premiere date and additional details about the groundbreaking competition. Dunkman is scheduled to debut on Tuesday, July 21, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, kicking off a summer slate of four consecutive hour-long league events on Tuesdays. These events will culminate with the Dunkman World Championship, which will air on Tuesday, August 25, at 8 p.m. Fans can tune in to TNT Sports and HBO Max for the live broadcasts, with supplementary content available through Bleacher Report, House of Highlights, and YouTube.
Adam Lefkoe will host the Dunkman coverage, bringing a lineup of notable analysts to the broadcast: Draymond Green, Vince Carter, and CashNasty will join the play-by-play and color commentary teams. A total of 24 dunkers will compete for the title of Dunkman world champion, with a substantial grand prize of $500,000 at stake.
“I’d like to thank my partners,” O’Neal said in April, highlighting the genesis of the project. “We did a show about eight years ago that drew over 200 million hits, so I took that concept and transformed it into the Dunkman show. Then I realized we needed a Dunkman League. Since NBA players often don’t give fans enough of what they want in the dunk contest, all of these professional dunkers have stepped in to fill that gap.”
O’Neal continued, “I’ve signed up 24 players, and there’s a $500,000 cash prize for the winner. The competition will feature an elaborate scoring system designed to determine the best dunker in the world. In the past, the top dunker was typically among the best players in the league. Today, many of the top dunkers aren’t NBA players, but they are exceptional dunkers who can captivate audiences with their artistry and creativity.”
The Dunkman lineup will feature a mix of established and rising talent, including three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung, along with competitors Dengxing Chen, Tyler Currie, and Isaiah Rivera, among others. The format promises high-flying athleticism, innovative dunks, and dynamic storytelling as the new league aims to redefine professional dunking.
With this bold venture, Shaquille O’Neal and TNT Sports are leveraging multiple platforms to maximize reach and engagement. All Dunkman events will stream on TNT Sports and HBO Max, while clips, highlights, and behind-the-scenes content will be distributed across Bleacher Report, House of Highlights, and YouTube, ensuring fans have multiple avenues to experience the action, analysis, and drama of the Dunkman competition. As anticipation builds for the debut, basketball fans and dunk enthusiasts alike are watching closely to see which athlete will emerge as the first Dunkman world champion and claim the $500,000 grand prize. The premiere date and all subsequent episodes mark a new era in dunking entertainment, blending high-level athleticism with modern media distribution to create a compelling, audience-driven spectacle.
