Summer has arrived, and with it comes the season many fans love most: scouting time. Each year we kick off Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, while also giving you a clear picture of players to watch in the fall as Tampa Bay faces evolving needs. Will we spotlight quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? Absolutely—because every position matters in the NFL draft. Teams from coast to coast will consider these players, and their destinations could be the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. Our goal is simple: provide Bucs fans with the clearest, most informed insight possible so you can stay ahead of the curve.
If you’re still with us, dive into our latest Summer Scouting report as we gear up for the fall. Tulane’s profile stands out as we begin.
Tulane, 6-4, 211 pounds. A 0-star prospect by 247 Sports, he is a team captain in high school and served as the team’s punter there. He earned All-District honorable mention as a defensive back in high school, not as a quarterback, and he earned second-team All-District honors as a punter. In 2025, he claimed the Burlsworth Trophy and led NCAA in passing yards, while earning American Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors and first-team All-Conference recognition for the season.
Key 2025 statistics include 15 starts, 509 pass attempts, 4,481 passing yards, and 9.5 yards per attempt. He posted 25 big-time throws and a 2.9% turnover-worthy play rate, with an average depth of target of 8.3 yards. His pass placement demonstrates good zip, and he shows the ability to make plays with his legs. He reads the field quickly, plays with edge and toughness, and can deliver throws to every level of the field.
Drew Mestemaker was a first-year starter, and the tape reflects the promise that comes with his early opportunities. His arm talent stands out, and the zip on his throws can evoke moments of admiration as he threads passes into tight windows. However, there are occasions when he misses high or low, underscoring the need for more reps and experience. The upside is palpable: by the end of the 2026 season, expect a more polished version of Mestemaker that could have NFL teams buzzing about his potential.
