Logan Webb has long represented a bright spot amid the San Francisco Giants’ upheaval and dysfunction. Recently, though, he appeared to retreat from the spotlight by deleting his X account after a clash with a radio reporter. The right-hander, who led the National League in innings pitched for three straight seasons, struggled early in a 10-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, surrendering five runs in the first inning and allowing the game’s first grand slam of his career. He settled in afterward, delivering six scoreless frames, but the Giants remained well behind the pace, dropping to 39-54 and trailing the Dodgers by 21.5 games. Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease carried a no-hitter into the ninth until Heliot Ramos singled for the Giants’ only hit.
The moment intensified when Jack Loder, a clearly frustrated digital content producer for KNBR, the Giants’ flagship station, posted a two-minute video on X that singled out Webb for sharp criticism. “People say, ‘How do you blame Webb when the offense didn’t do anything?’” Loder said. “Yes, the offense didn’t do anything. I’m spreading the blame here. Maybe they do something if it’s 0-0 or 1-0. When someone is supposed to be your ace, you think they are going to give you the best chance to win every week… I’ve really appreciated his Giant tenure, but there’s always been a little bit lacking. I wish he was a little bit more of an ace. Because Lord knows this team has needed him in so many instances the last few years.” Loder also predicted that Webb “might be searching his name on Twitter after the game, which is never a great look.”
Webb responded to Loder’s video shortly thereafter, saying, “You know what’s sad is they allow people like you in the locker room.” Loder then shared Webb’s reply, noting, “If you’re wondering where the Giants are at mentally after a 10-0 loss to fall to 16 games under .500.” Webb later engaged with another reporter in the thread and even replied to at least two Giants fans, telling one, “Honestly you probably don’t know anything about anything some loser on the couch that couldn’t make his little league team.”
Later in the evening, Webb deleted his X account and has not reactivated it. Perhaps he will address the matter again at the All-Star Game, where he represents the Giants for the third consecutive year. Near the video’s end, Loder broadened his condemnation: “The veterans—the highest-paid guys—let this team down, let the franchise down, let the fans down.” Several Giants players are paid more than $20 million this season, including first baseman Rafael Devers and third baseman Matt Chapman, as well as top starter Robbie R. The episode underscored the tension between the team’s on-field performance and the mounting pressure from media scrutiny as the Giants chase a turnaround.
