Andrey Santos meets Michael Carrick ahead of official announcement

Manchester United appear to have nearly secured their first summer signing, with Michael Carrick’s long-standing plan to overhaul the midfield seemingly taking shape. Carrick has consistently stressed the need to refresh the engine room, and signs suggest his objective is gradually moving into reality.
The club initially faced disappointment as price considerations blocked moves for Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes. However, United pivoted to Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and completed a rapid deal that has left INEOS pleased with the terms paid for the Brazilian. Reports from The Peoples Person indicated that the 22-year-old would travel to Carrington to put pen to paper on his contract. Sully, a trusted source on United matters, has since stated that Santos is handling media duties with the club, and an official announcement is expected once those duties are fulfilled.
Santos reportedly met with his new head coach in the morning, and observers will be keen to see how Carrick intends to deploy the dynamic youngster. In a recent update, it was said that Santos had completed his medical with United and had in-person discussions with Carrick. The expectation is that he will sign a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season, and participate in the standard media commitments later in the day before being unveiled as a first-team player.
Meanwhile, United have begun their pre-season preparations with several senior players already at Carrington, including Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount. The club, champions of English football on multiple occasions, are also close to confirming the capture of Karl Darlow, who is expected to serve as a deputy to Senne Lammens in goal.
The status of Ederson remains somewhat opaque, as the Atalanta goalkeeper is currently undergoing a comprehensive medical in Manchester. Earlier concerns flagged during his medical in the United States prompted the club to bring him to England after the World Cup. There is still a possibility that the deal could stall, which would likely increase INEOS’s involvement in the market as Carrick pursues at least three new midfielders to strengthen the squad.
The situation remains fluid, with several moving parts in play as Manchester United push to shape a squad capable of challenging at the highest level next season. As developments unfold, fans will be watching closely to see how Carrick’s plans materialize on the pitch and how early signings integrate into the squad’s broader tactical setup.
