Burnley’s Maxime Estève set to join Leipzig in a €32m deal

Burnley FC’s Maxime Estève, aged 24, is reportedly poised to move to RB Leipzig, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Under contract with the Clarets until 2030, the French defender is expected to seal a transfer to the German club soon for a fee of €32 million, including bonuses. While final terms are still being negotiated with his English counterparts, Leipzig’s management are said to have already convinced Estève to join them. He is anticipated to be the replacement for Castello Lukeba, who is set to depart in the coming weeks.
Initially joining Burnley on loan before making a permanent switch from Montpellier HSC in 2024, the former French Under-23 international quickly established himself as a key figure for the Lancashire club. He started all 36 of his appearances in the 2025-26 season, but could not prevent Burnley from suffering relegation to the Championship.
If the move goes through, Estève will not only experience the Bundesliga but also the Champions League, as Leipzig secured qualification for Europe’s premier competition after finishing third in the league. This transition would mark a new chapter in Estève’s career, exposing him to a higher level of competition and broader exposure on the continental stage.
