MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins announced Friday that catcher Ryan Jeffers has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list after missing nearly two months with a left hamate bone fracture. The 29-year-old Jeffers had been off to a strong start prior to his injury, posting a .295 batting average, a .949 OPS, seven home runs and 26 RBIs across 37 games. In a recent rehab assignment, he appeared in five Triple-A games, where he batted .375 and added two homers to his totals.
Jeffers is in his seventh season with the Twins, a tenure during which he has compiled a .243 career batting average, 75 home runs and 552 games played. His return provides a significant boost to Minnesota’s catching depth and lineup as the team continues to push for competitive performance during the current campaign.
To clear a spot on the roster for Jeffers, the Twins optioned outfielder Kyler Fedko to Triple-A. Fedko did not collect a hit in his 16 at-bats across 14 major league appearances, leaving him with a challenging start at the big-league level. The move underscores the team’s ongoing adjustments as they evaluate depth options and respond to the health status of their players.
As Jeffers re-enters the Twins’ catching corps, he will be looked to for his overall contribution behind the plate and with the bat. His presence should help stabilize the middle of the order and provide additional protection for the lineup, given his proven track record of contributing both offensively and defensively when healthy. The team will likely monitor his workload closely in the coming weeks to ensure he returns to form smoothly after his extended absence.
With Jeffers back in the fold, the Twins will continue their pursuit of wins as they navigate the season’s grind and aim to maximize the performance of their lineup at both the plate and behind it. The organization’s handling of roster moves, including the recent sending down of Fedko, reflects their ongoing strategy to balance immediate needs with long-term development as they evaluate players across the organization.
