Heat’s Bam Adebayo, ex-teammate Tyler Herro reportedly have altercation

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo reportedly got into a physical confrontation with former teammate Tyler Herro, with Adebayo allegedly striking Herro. ESPN reported that the incident occurred at a practice court in Las Vegas on Friday, July 10, during the NBA’s Summer League showcase. The confrontation arose after Adebayo approached Herro about a recent critical social media post that Herro had made. According to the report, Adebayo struck near Herro’s face.
A Heat spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports via text message that the organization is aware of the matter but would not comment further. Later that same Friday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel spoke with Herro, who declined to elaborate, saying, “My only comment is no comment.”
The two players had spent all seven of Herro’s NBA seasons together with the Heat. The July 2023 trade that brought Herro to the Heat mentioned in the report was part of a larger deal in which Bam Adebayo remained with Miami as the franchise’s top-paid player. The Summer League gathering in Las Vegas is a common occasion for current players to show support for rookies and younger players while also working out themselves on various courts around the city.
In the broader context of Summer League activity, video circulated on social media showing Adebayo continuing his shooting work the day before at a Las Vegas court. That same weekend, the Bucks and Heat faced off in Summer League play, with the Heat winning 119-86. Shortly after the trade between Miami and Milwaukee was finalized, screenshots of direct messages between a fan and Herro leaked, apparently addressing the Heat’s internal dynamics. Although Herro did not name Adebayo in those messages, the messages suggested he was the subject of certain pointed criticisms.
Herro’s salary context has been part of ongoing discussion since his contract discussions and on-court performance have drawn attention. Herro’s average annual value under his current contract is substantial, reflecting his status as a high-profile player for Miami. In a separate media moment earlier on Friday, an Amazon Prime broadcast interviewed Herro about his relationship with the Heat, and he replied, “It’s all love. It’s all love in Miami.”
As the situation develops, the Heat have not issued further public statements beyond acknowledging the matter and declining to comment, leaving the specifics of what occurred and any potential disciplinary actions to be determined by team and league processes.
