The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox kept their winning ways rolling with a 2-0 victory in eight innings over the Bourne Braves, extending their league-best record to 19-2-1. The win was powered by strong pitching Friday, as Yarmouth-Dennis used a stout performance on the mound to shut down Bourne and preserve the lead.
Easton Teel of Oral Roberts got the start and delivered five spotless innings, allowing no hits, no runs, and two walks while recording two strikeouts. Connor Hamilton from Vanderbilt followed with two innings in relief, giving up two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Peyton Rodgers of UC Irvine then pitched a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one to complete the pitching performance for the Red Sox.
Offensively, Avery Ortiz of Oklahoma State was the lone player from either side to post two hits in the game. Yarmouth-Dennis drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Dante Vachini of Cal Poly belted a center-field homer, his third of the summer, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Ortiz came home on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the margin to 2-0.
Bourne’s lineup featured Noah Scott from Oregon State, who drew five walks but was limited to four strikeouts, highlighting the challenging day for the Braves at the plate. The Red Sox capitalized on the command issues to secure the eight-inning triumph.
In other Cape Cod Baseball League action, the Harbors Hawks improved to 10-12 by grabbing an early lead and then holding off the host Mariners to finish with a 4-1 victory. Raymond Olivas of UC Santa Barbara started for the Harbors Hawks and earned the win, moving to 2-1 on the summer thanks to five innings of work, during which he scattered two hits, allowed one run, issued one walk, and struck out two. Easton Barrett, who recorded a hold, worked 1 2/3 innings, permitting four hits, two runs, and no walks while fanning three. Truitt Webb of Southeastern Louisiana closed out the final 2 1/3 innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
Jordan Lodise of Central Florida was the only player on either team to collect two hits in that game. For the Harbors Hawks, Caden Miller of Texas-San Antonio contributed a key moment by scoring on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one in the fourth inning. Miller then was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth, giving the Hawks a 2-1 edge. Lodise added an RBI base hit in the seventh, and Jax Gimenez of Oregon scored on a sacrifice fly as the Harbors Hawks pulled away to lead 4-1.
On the Mariners’ side, Harwich opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Sean O’Leary of Massachusetts-Lowell delivered an RBI single to give the Mariners a 1-0 advantage. Later, Colin Larson of Boston College delivered a two-run double in the seventh to extend Harwich’s lead.
