Brewers’ Logan Henderson Talks All-Star Break, Starting Pitchers

After nearly two months away from the Major League Baseball mound, Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Logan Henderson returned to the rotation. He started against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, his first appearance since May 22 due to a back strain that kept him on the Injured List. In his return, Henderson delivered 5.1 innings, struck out four, and allowed three hits, three earned runs, and a walk. The Brewers defeated the Cardinals 8-4, and Henderson earned the win, his third consecutive victory and his record for the season rising to 3-1.
Before Milwaukee’s series opener with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday was postponed by rain, Henderson joined MLB Network to discuss his All-Star break plans, the Brewers’ rotation, and more. “Yeah, I’ve got a flight out of here Sunday night,” Henderson said. “I’m headed to Houston, then back home, and I’ll spend some time with friends and family and just stay sharp because I’ve got the first game back from the break.” Henderson is slated to face the Miami Marlins on July 17, a club that sits at 52-43 and is pursuing a National League Wild Card berth.
While Henderson was rehabbing, other Brewers starters—Jacob Misiorowski, Kyle Harrison, and Brandon Sproat—made their mark in the rotation and helped keep the team rolling. Henderson was asked to describe each of them. He highlighted Sproot’s durability and impact, saying, “You know, I think of durability. He’s gone out and pitched every single five days this year, and he’s been a huge guy in our rotation. It’s been really cool to see him step up, especially the last month or two. And, yeah, he’s been really special.”
Henderson also expressed admiration for Misiorowski, whom he’s known from the minor leagues. “It’s unbelievable,” Henderson said. “I mean, I’ve come up in the system with him, and it never gets old; he’s taking it up a notch every start. I feel privileged to have a front-row seat at every game. Honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone in the game doing what he’s doing right now.”
Regarding Kyle Harrison, Henderson noted the learning opportunities his fellow left-hander has provided. “I’ve learned a lot from Kyle since he arrived,” Henderson shared. “I think we have pretty similar arsenals, so he’s a guy who can ride it at the top, and he shows the others that when you establish a fastball up, you can really blend everything off of it.” Henderson added that it’s enjoyable to watch Harrison throw before him because Harrison’s approach offers a kind of script. “Obviously, he’s from the left side, but what he’s done this year has been no surprise. He’s stepped up for us in a huge way, and I’ve learned a lot from him, for sure.”
