GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a tightly contested game on Friday, July 10, the Greensboro Grasshoppers suffered a 9-8 defeat at the hands of the Greenville Drive. The loss dropped Greenville to an 8-11 mark in the second half of the season, while Greensboro slid to 12-7. The Drive held a 13-8 advantage in hits, reflecting a high-scoring battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the night.
Offensively, Easton Carmichael led Greensboro, going 3-for-4 with a home run, one RBI, and two runs scored, delivering the team’s early spark and providing a consistent threat at the plate. Several teammates joined the hit column for the Grasshoppers, including Sammy Stafura, Edward Florentino, Jared Jones, Cam Janik, and Dylan Palmer, each contributing one hit as part of a collective offense that fought to keep pace with Greenville’s balanced attack.
Greenville’s bats proved formidable, with Mason White pacing the Drive at the plate by going 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored. White’s multi-hit performance underscored Greenville’s power and run production, helping the Drive build and sustain an offensive edge. Teammate Gerardo Rodriguez also delivered a strong night at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, amplifying Greenville’s offense in multiple innings. Justin Gonzales and Luke Heyman each reached base twice with two hits apiece, while Ronny Hernandez added another single to the Drive’s offensive onslaught.
On the mound, Greensboro received a solid start from right-hander Bryan Mena, who worked 5.2 innings and fanned three while allowing five hits and three earned runs. His performance kept Greensboro in the game for much of the night, but a late bullpen effort could not close the door. Yulian Quintana was charged with the loss, dropping to 3-1 on the season, as the Grasshoppers attempted to stymie Greenville’s late push.
Greenville countered with right-hander Marcus Phillips, who began the game by striking out six across 4.2 innings, conceding two hits, one earned run, and issuing four walks. The decisive moment came when Shea Sprague pitched effectively in relief, earning the victory to improve to 3-2 on the season and providing the Drive with the necessary stability to secure the win.
Looking ahead, Greensboro continues its home series against Greenville with a 6:30 PM start time on Saturday, inviting fans to witness another chapter in this two-team rivalry. The Grasshoppers will aim to rebound quickly, leveraging home-field advantage and a potent lineup as they seek to reassert their position in the tightly contested standings.
