Texans Get Strong Message About Tank Dell Before Training Camp

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Tank Dell shapes up as an X-factor for the Houston Texans as training camp approaches. Dell, who was drafted by Houston in the third round of 2023—the same class that produced starter-caliber players like C.J. Stroud, Will Anderson Jr., and Henry To’oTo’o—looks to make a notable return after an injury-riddled path. The Texans missed Dell’s explosiveness last season, as their receiver corps lacked the kind of suddenness and big-play threat he provided before injuries sidelined him.
Dell did not participate in team drills during the offseason program, leaving questions about how quickly he can regain his peak form after missing a full season and another significant leg injury. His speed and quickness were central components of his game prior to the setbacks. He also dealt with a fractured left fibula that cut his rookie season short, compounding concerns about his trajectory as he enters a critical stage in his career.
On the rehabilitation front, there is some optimism. Ken Staten, known as Dr. Ken and the owner of Staten Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy, has suggested that concerns about Dell may be overstated. In a post on X, Staten shared a high-energy highlight reel of Dell’s rehab progress, underscoring confidence in his return and tagging several reporters and content creators in what resembled a broad update on his status. Staten’s upbeat message has added a notable dose of reassurance as Dell works to re-establish himself.
Dell is set to attract substantial notice when camp opens, but the bigger question is whether he can rebound from ligament damage and a dislocated kneecap with the same level of resilience he showed against a broken bone. The task will be challenging, given the increased competition at receiver and the presence of several capable playmakers in Houston’s depth chart.
Beyond Dell, the Texans’ receiving corps includes Nico Collins, a two-time Pro Bowler, and Lewis Bond, a 2026 draft pick who joins a group that already features 2025 selections Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. The roster also contains 2024 pick Xavier Hutchinson, veteran Justin Watson, and a mix of reserves who will vie for targets. As Josh Edwards of CBS Sports noted in early July, Dell had been an explosive threat in the Texans’ offense and a reliable option for quarterback C.J. Stroud, but with more receivers to feed, the dynamic in the passing game has shifted. The expectation for Dell isn’t necessarily that he becomes a high-volume target immediately; instead, the aim is for him to stretch the field, create opportunities for teammates, and lay the groundwork for a productive career ahead.
If Dell can return to or near his prior form, his reintegration into Houston’s offense could see him reclaim a prominent role atop the depth chart. His ability to separate, make quick plays, and threaten defenses vertically remains a valuable asset for a Texans team that is navigating a competitive landscape at the position. The 2026 season also marks a pivotal year for Dell beyond football considerations, as it stands to shape the next phase of his NFL career, both in terms of performance and contract outlook. As Houston moves forward, the path for Dell will hinge on his health, how quickly he can regain his athletic traits, and how he fits within the evolving schematic approach under the current coaching staff.
