Key question facing Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars QB position in training camp

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

As training camp approaches, we’ll focus on the single biggest question facing each of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ position groups. First up are the quarterbacks, led by Trevor Lawrence, who is coming off a 2025 season that earned him MVP finalist consideration. With that in mind, the main question for 2026 is clear: what’s next for Lawrence?
Remaining in the same offensive system for a second straight offseason could be the catalyst for a noteworthy Year 2 leap. Instead of learning a completely new scheme, Lawrence can deepen his understanding of what’s already been established and dive further into Coach Press Taylor’s playbook with a greater sense of familiarity. That continuity should help him be more decisive and confident in his decisions, ultimately enabling him to react faster on game days.
“He’s a lot calmer,” Lawrence said during the offseason programs. “A lot more confident in my progressions and what I know about the system. When I get on the grass, it’s a lot less thinking. So I think that’s the biggest thing: I can react, play faster, and work on different aspects of my game because the focus isn’t as much on what to do, or what the play call is, and what the adjustments are.”
Throughout the offseason, Jaguars offensive coordinator Mike Coen has been impressed by Lawrence’s ability to protect the football while also pushing the ball downfield. Coen has also noted how Lawrence operates the offense pre-snap. When the offense surged in the second half of 2025, Lawrence’s command of the huddle and his knack for getting the offense into favorable looks at the line of scrimmage played a significant role in that success. He appears to have picked up right where he left off.
In addition to Lawrence’s continued growth within the system, another offseason focus has been building chemistry with the Jaguars’ receivers. “I’m pleased with Trevor’s spring,” Coen said. “Absolutely.”
While Lawrence performed well down the stretch last season, there remains room for further development in Coen’s offense, and early indications this offseason suggest he’s positioned to take another step forward. Carrying that momentum into training camp is the next objective for the quarterback group.
