Sheff Wed sign Bristol City goalkeeper Lumley

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of goalkeeper Joe Lumley on a free transfer from Bristol City. The 31-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with the Owls at Hillsborough, following a brief loan spell with the club last season in which he made two appearances.
Lumley began his career with Queens Park Rangers and has also represented Middlesbrough and Southampton during his career. Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “I jumped at the chance to come here. I was here last season and within that time I felt the set-up of the club, the size of the club, and how passionate the fans are. It was a no-brainer for me. I’ve heard season tickets are selling out fast, so I can only imagine the atmosphere will be exactly how it was when I experienced it before, which is perfect. I’ve played at Hillsborough as an away player too, and when the ground is bouncing, it’s intimidating—something you want as a home team.”
Wednesday endured a challenging season in which they were relegated from the Championship after significant financial difficulties culminated in an 18-point deduction. Following a takeover in May, the club avoided a further 15-point penalty for the upcoming League One campaign.
All deals in July 2026 have now been completed. This roundup includes the latest Sheffield Wednesday news, analysis, and fan commentary, as well as recent Bristol City updates for readers seeking comprehensive context.
