DONE DEAL: Tottenham’s Yusuf Akhamrich loaned to Leyton Orient

Last season, a number of Tottenham Hotspur’s young academy graduates and U23 talents ventured out on loan and made a splash. Among them was 20-year-old English-Moroccan right winger Yusuf Akhamrich, who spent half the season on loan at League Two side Bristol Rovers. There, he tallied six goals and delivered two assists in just over 900 minutes of play, a performance that turned heads and hinted at his potential.
That successful spell in League Two has set the stage for another loan this season, with Akhamrich heading back out but this time to a higher level. He is bound for League One on a season-long loan to Leyton Orient. Akhamrich has flown somewhat under the radar in terms of hype, yet he is widely regarded as one of the most promising players to emerge from Spurs’ academy in recent years. His stint at Bristol Rovers last season was particularly eye-opening and suggested that his development trajectory could accelerate with regular first-team football.
At present, Akhamrich has two years remaining on his initial professional contract. However, with a number of ahead-of-him prospects in the Spurs pecking order and a crowded pathway to the first team, a loan move makes the most sense to continue his growth. Leyton Orient is a club with which Spurs have cultivated a strong relationship, having loaned several players there in recent years. It is also famously associated with Harold Edward Kane, OBE, whose early professional steps were taken at Orient, a nod that underscores the club’s role in developing young Spurs talent.
For Spurs fans, Akhamrich is a player worth watching closely. It’s worth reiterating that youth development rarely follows a straight line, and there are no guarantees about breaking into the first team. Yet Akhamrich possesses significant promise, and his progress will be one of the more intriguing narratives of Tottenham’s academy this season. The third division will be a fresh proving ground to test his abilities, adapt to different tactical demands, and showcase whether he can translate his potential into consistent performances over a full season. If he can adapt quickly and maintain his attacking threat, a bright future could be on the horizon for this bright, young winger.
