Barcelona defender emerges on Bayern Munich shortlist

Jules Kounde continues to attract admiration from across Europe, and Bayern Munich have become the latest club to keep the Barcelona defender on their radar. While the German champions have followed the French international for several years, a move to the Allianz Arena is not anticipated to materialize in the current transfer window.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Bayern remain convinced of Kounde’s quality and continue to monitor his situation at Barcelona. However, their interest has not yet evolved into concrete negotiations, largely because Vincent Kompany’s squad already has its defensive department overloaded. For now, Bayern’s focus is on trimming the squad rather than adding another high-profile defender, leaving any potential pursuit of the Barcelona star on hold despite the club’s admiration.
Kounde has long been a familiar name within Bayern’s recruitment conversation. Despite the ongoing interest, Falk reports that there is currently no realistic pathway for Bayern to complete a deal. The biggest hurdle is not Barcelona’s asking price or the player’s willingness to move, but Bayern’s own squad planning. Before considering another defensive signing, the Bundesliga champions must reduce the number of players competing for defensive places. If that occurs, they may revisit Kounde’s profile later in the window; however, for now, the transfer remains more of a possibility than an active operation.
From Barcelona’s perspective, there is no urgency regarding Kounde’s future, as the player holds a contract until 2030. There have also been no indications from Kounde that he is pursuing a fresh challenge. He is understood to be comfortable in Catalonia and fully committed to continuing his career at Spotify Camp Nou. That said, it is important to note that even though Barcelona are not actively exploring a sale, the club’s financial reality means that few players can be considered completely untouchable. Reports suggest that Barcelona would listen to offers in the region of €65 million, though that figure should not be interpreted as an indication of a willingness to part with the defender. Rather, it reflects the pragmatic approach the Catalan club has adopted in recent transfer windows.
For Bayern Munich, reaching a formal stage remains a distant prospect. Until space is created within their own squad, there is little chance of initiating talks. The situation underscores how intertwined transfer dynamics are with broader squad planning, financial considerations, and strategic priorities at both clubs. As the season progresses and Bayern reassesses their defensive options, the door could reopen for discussions about Kounde, but for now the defender remains on Bayern’s radar without imminent negotiations.
