Daniel Jones cleared for full participation ahead of Colts training camp

Daniel Jones appears ready to participate fully as training camp approaches. In a video shared by James Boyd of The Athletic, Jones said he has been “cleared to do everything” as he continues his recovery from the Achilles injury he sustained last season. He had already progressed to 7-on-7 work during the Colts’ offseason program and is expected to be a full participant when training camp opens.
This development marks an important first step for both Jones and the Colts. Indianapolis re-signed Jones this offseason in hopes of bringing stability to a quarterback room that has been unsettled for years. With Anthony Richardson’s future still uncertain and rookie Riley Leonard still developing, Jones provides the Colts with their most experienced option. Being healthy enough to participate fully in camp gives him a real chance to take command of the offense early on.
“I’m feeling good,” Jones said. “I think I’ve made a good amount of progress since minicamp and will continue to do that these next two weeks before camp and then all through camp. But I’m feeling really good and feel like I’m in a good spot.”
Jones also acknowledged that the Achilles injury remains something he thinks about, which is natural for a quarterback coming off such a tear. “You still think about it. Probably will until you get playing and into games and stuff,” he said. “You’re putting a lot of time into it. It’s kind of the central part of all my training and all my time this offseason. Still thinking about but really happy with where I am.”
For the Colts, the health update removes one immediate concern, though it does not resolve the larger questions about his ability to be accurate, strong, and consistently productive enough to run Shane Steichen’s offense. The Colts do not necessarily need Jones to be a superstar, but they do need him to avoid the quarterback instability that has hindered the team in recent seasons.
The roster around him should help. Jonathan Taylor remains the centerpiece of the offense, the offensive line provides Indianapolis with a solid foundation, and the passing game features contributors in Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, Alec Pierce, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren. If Jones can stay healthy and command the offense with consistency, the Colts should have enough support to compete in the AFC South.
Training camp will serve as the first real test. Being cleared is welcome news, but Jones now must demonstrate that a clean bill of health can translate into a confident, efficient command of the offense. He has the opportunity to establish himself as the leader of the Colts’ offense from Day 1, turning the early optimism surrounding his return into tangible on-field performance.
