Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Isaiah Sategna emerged as one of the biggest surprises on the team’s offense last season. After totaling just 54 receptions for 632 yards and three touchdowns over three seasons at Arkansas, Sategna found a new level in Norman. In his first season with the Sooners, he broke out with 67 catches for 965 yards and eight touchdowns, quickly becoming Oklahoma’s most reliable receiving threat and routinely delivering when the offense needed a big play.
Two of his most memorable plays came in what were arguably the two most important games of the year. Following crucial road wins over the Tennessee Volunteers and the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma needed to hold serve at home to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. The first pivotal game was against the Missouri Tigers. The offense had sputtered early, but Sategna broke free for an 87-yard touchdown to put the Sooners ahead 7-3 in the second quarter. Oklahoma went on to win 17-6, and Sategna’s big-play ability provided a critical spark when his team needed it most.
Later, the Sooners trailed LSU 13-10 with under five minutes left in the game. Sategna answered again, catching a 58-yard touchdown pass on a busted coverage to push Oklahoma ahead 17-13 in a game the Sooners ultimately won. His impact in those high-stakes moments underscored why he had become such a vital weapon for the offense and why his role mattered in the postseason push.
As the decision to return for another season unfolded, Sategna explained that loyalty to Oklahoma and a sense of unfinished business guided his choice. “This was the place that I needed to be in life,” he said. “I felt like I had unfinished work here. After that last Alabama game, I had a big decision on my hands. First, I did a lot of praying, and God told me, really, to just come back and just be loyal. I just had some left on the plate.” His return provided the Sooners with valuable continuity at a position that proved pivotal in their 2025 campaign.
With another offseason under offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle’s system and established chemistry with quarterback John Mateer, Oklahoma again will lean on Sategna to deliver game-changing plays. If his 2025 performance is any indication, he has the potential to become one of the SEC’s premier receivers in 2026, bringing leadership, reliability, and explosive playmaking to the Sooners’ passing game.
