17-year old Nikola Kusturica could be the next face of UCLA basketball

Nikola Kusturica is one of the standout recruits Mick Cronin has secured during his tenure with the UCLA Bruins. At just 17 years old, having just turned 17 in April, Kusturica is positioned to embark on a path that could see him reach the NBA after two more seasons at UCLA, all while still remaining a teenager. His physical profile adds a layer of versatility to UCLA’s lineup. Listed around 6’7” to 6’8”, the young Serbian forward may not be done growing, suggesting he could develop into a jumbo-sized wing during his time in Westwood.
Pairing Kusturica with Eric Dailey Jr., another lengthy wing, and a mobile center like Xavier Booker could give the Bruins a distinct look in the 2026-2027 season. That trio brings a substantial amount of offensive firepower to the table, but the real questions revolve around how well they can translate that talent to the defensive end and sustain momentum against tougher competition.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello noted UCLA’s recent additions, highlighting the impact of Kusturica along with Cronin’s other portal acquisitions. Despite his young age, Kusturica is anticipated to make an immediate impact for Cronin’s Bruins. UCLA returns three starters from last season’s 24-12 squad and has welcomed four transfers from other power conferences, including fellow Europeans Filip Jovic and Sergej Macura. Borzello also pointed out that Kusturica has been part of the FC Barcelona system since 2023, making his competitive debut in September 2025 as the youngest player to appear for Barcelona’s first team.
This recruitment marks a significant development for UCLA, as Kusturica has the potential to evolve into a defining figure for the program in the coming years. The combination of his early arrival on the national stage, his projected growth trajectory, and the surrounding talent around him positions UCLA to potentially redefine its ceiling in the near term. The addition of such a high-upside prospect has the Bruins poised to make a strong statement in the evolving landscape of college basketball. This report originates from UCLA Wire, which highlighted Kusturica’s potential to become the next defining face of UCLA men’s basketball.
