Guehi and Stones set to start for England in World Cup quarter-final

Marc Guehi has overcome his fitness concerns and is poised to start England’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway, partnering John Stones in central defence after the latter’s recall. Guehi, who picked up a minor hamstring strain in the win over Mexico, had missed training sessions earlier in the week but is now expected to be cleared to feature at the heart of England’s back line. He is likely to line up alongside Stones, who is set to return to the starting XI for the first time since the opening game against Croatia. Ezri Konsa is anticipated to move from centre-back to right-back as part of the defensive reorganization.
Declan Rice remains fit to start despite a sickness bug that disrupted preparations, and Noni Madueke is expected to take a place ahead of Bukayo Saka in another modification to the lineup. Stones, 32, has been used as a substitute in all subsequent matches since Croatia, but he played a crucial role against Mexico, coming on for Saka on the 57th minute after Jarell Quansah’s red card.
The expected England team line-up is: Pickford; Konsa, Guehi, Stones, O’Reilly; Anderson, Rice, Madueke; Gordon, Bellingham, Kane. More updates are expected as the World Cup progresses.
