​Fresh off a dramatic come-from-behind 4-3 victory on Friday night, the Rockies head to San Francisco hoping to carry that momentum into another win. Colorado pitcher Kyle Freeland (2-7, 7.46 ERA) is set to make his 17th start of the season for the 39-57 Rockies. In his most recent outing, Freeland allowed six runs on nine hits, including a home run, over five innings as the Dodgers rallied for an 8-7, 11-inning win on July 6.
Across his career, Freeland has gone 8-9 in 27 appearances (24 starts) against the Giants, posting a 4.35 ERA. At Oracle Park, the veteran lefty is 2-5 with a 3.63 ERA in 11 starts. Today’s matchup marks Freeland’s first appearance against San Francisco this season.
Colorado will oppose 31-year-old right-hander Tyler Mahle (1-8, 5.70 ERA). The Rockies faced Mahle in Colorado on July 5, when he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks over 4.1 innings. The Rockies rallied for a 7-6 comeback win behind a three-run homer from Kyle Carros in the eighth inning to seal the victory. In his career, Mahle is 2-1 with a 5.21 ERA in seven starts against the Rockies.
The Rockies currently lead the season series against the Giants, 5-3. Earlier on Saturday, Colorado recalled right-handed reliever Jeff Criswell from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned right-hander TJ Shook to the Isotopes.
